Helsingborgs IF is replacing the grass on Olympia with a hybrid grass. After the match between Helsingborgs IF and GIF Sundsvall on June 21, spectators will have a unique chance to take a souvenir home. On Sunday, June 21, Helsingborgs stad will begin the renovation of Olympia's grass to modern hybrid grass. Helsingborgs stad wants to give something back to all who have shared joy and sorrow on the stands. Therefore, we invite spectators to a distribution, where you as a spectator can pick up your own piece of grass to grow further at home in the garden or on the balcony. The renovation is expected to take place until July 22. The football pitch on Olympia will undergo a comprehensive modernization this summer. This is done to meet the tightened requirements for international matches from the Swedish Football Association and UEFA, but also to reduce the city's energy consumption. After 15 years of sanding, the heating pipes of the pitch are today too deep to be able to heat the grass in an energy-efficient way. The city is investing around 10 million kronor in a modern hybrid grass with a hybrid grass that is used on European top arenas such as Real Sociedad's home stadium and the English Stadium of Light. It consists of 95% natural grass reinforced with embedded plastic fibers. The grass that is not distributed to supporters is not thrown away. The city grinds it down and reuses it as soil and filling material when we renovate other sports facilities around Helsingborg.
